I got a new lens and I spent a couple of hours running around the “Wiener Prater” taking it for a little try out. The nice thing about the Prater in the winter is, it’s really really empty. And with all the colourful buildungs I thought it would be a great place for the new lens.
I actually took some large format photos here with a friend last year. We did scan them, so maybe I’ll show them some other time.

These photos were actually taken a few months back, but I never got around to developing the films, but now finally they’re here. These photos were taken on the 26th of october 2010, Austrias “Nationalfeiertag”. Ring any bells? I did a blog entry on the event last year, in case you missed it or want ot refresh your memory…

Tho this entry is all about the very “austrian” spectators.

I only just managed to finish my prints in time for this exhibition in Vienna for the “monat der fotografie” (month of photography). But they turned out quite nice. I actually kind of enjoyed printing again. I think I’ll be going more often in the next few weeks. Exhibition is for another week, so if you missed it, go and see it.

So after months and weeks of some serious campaigning in Vienna the “fight for Vienna” ends tomorrow. I live in the 8th district and it’s been in the hands of the Greens for the last 5 years. Hope it stays that way because before 2005 it was ruled by the Conservatives for over 50 years. I love the area I live in, the Josefstadt. It’s the smallest Viennese district with 22057 people living here (2001, Wikipedia).
The photo beneath was taken at a political rally by the right wing party FPÖ, at which I heard their infamous leader Heinz Christian Strache speak for the first time. It’s really quite an experience.
He likes to use quotes like:
Wien darf nicht Istanbul werden (Vienna must not become Istanbul).
Daham statt Islam (at home instead of Islam).
Arbeit statt Zuwanderung (jobs instead of immigration).
Enough said.

…our national holiday in Austria, formerly known as the “Tag der Fahne” (day of the flag) before 1965. Anyway the Austrian Army makes a big thing of it and marches around “the Heldenplatz” in Vienna. It’s a bit tedious watching 18 year old kids running around with big guns and demonstrating how to kill other people quickly. But I read the other day that they’re seriously thinking of abolishing compulsory military service, which sounds like a sensible idea in the 21st century. I took these photos last year, shortly after I bought the Leica with which I had some focus problems at the beginning.

So, like every year we had an exhibition at FotoK at the end of the semester. And it went brilliantly. People were coming up to me and wanted to know more about my work. It was great and I was really happy about it. By the way the project was called “caché”.

So, last weekend we had the rainbow parade in Vienna. It really isn’t very fun to take photos there, because there are just too many photographers running about, but I didn’t know that last year. So here are some photos from last years “Regenbogenparade”, I also wanted to post these because they’re like the only analog colour photos I’ve ever taken…
